What length and serration?
For large loaves and thick-crusted breads, a blade of 20 to 26 cm gives the reach needed to slice in a single pass. The serration, whether wide-toothed or micro-serrated, should bite into the crust on its own: cutting comes from the back-and-forth motion, never from pressure, which avoids crushing the crumb.
Which handle and what care?
A handle offering a firm, secure grip makes the sawing motion easier, especially on the hardest breads. The stainless-steel blade is simple to clean; hand washing and careful drying preserve the serrated edge, which is trickier to re-sharpen than a plain blade.
