Pyrex
Brand distributed by AZ boutique ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 4,7/5Welcome to our Pyrex boutique, the internationally knprivate-label brand of culinary borosilicate glassware, registered in 1915 by the American group Corning. The brand was born from a legendary domestic experiment: in 1913, Bessie Littleton, the wife of a Corning physicist, baked a cake in a borosilicate glass cylinder taken from a lamp base. The result was so successful that Corning adapted its glass formula — originally developed for technical uses — for oven cooking, giving rise to the first Pyrex dish. For more than a century, the brand has equipped kitchens around the world.
Pyrex's expertise
Pyrex's historic signature is borosilicate glass, a very low-thermal-expansion glass that withstands thermal shocks. This property, developed by the German glassmaker Otto Schott from 1893 and adapted by Corning, sets Pyrex apart from ordinary soda-lime glass.
- Rectangular and oval oven dishes: for traditional ovens, gratins and roasts
- Tart and cake tins: even baking, visible release

Choosing Pyrex
Why does Pyrex glass withstand thermal shocks?
Historic Pyrex is made from borosilicate glass, a glass enriched with boron oxide that has a much lower coefficient of thermal expansion than ordinary soda-lime glass. In practice, this means the glass deforms very little during a sudden temperature change: a dish straight from the fridge can go in the oven without cracking, within the manufacturer's recommended thermal limits. This property, the technical signature of Pyrex, has driven the brand's reputation since 1915.
Is all Pyrex made of borosilicate glass?
Historically, yes: Pyrex was born from borosilicate glass. For several decades, depending on the market and factory, the Pyrex brand has been produced either in borosilicate glass (notably in Europe) or in tempered soda-lime glass (more common in the United States). Thermal shock resistance varies by composition. When in doubt, the marking on the bottom of the dish indicates the country of manufacture and helps trace the exact composition.
Is Pyrex oven-, microwave- and dishwasher-safe?
Pyrex dishes are designed for traditional ovens, microwaves and dishwashers. However, avoid extreme thermal shocks: do not place a very hot dish on a cold or wet surface, and do not pour cold liquid into a very hot dish. Going straight from freezer to hot oven without transition is also discouraged to protect the dish.
Which Pyrex dish should I choose for each use?
For a family roast or gratin, a medium or large rectangular dish is the reliable choice. For tarts and cakes, round glass moulds let you check the colour of the dough from underneath. For preparation and storage, Pyrex bowls and salad bowls offer prep / bake / microwave / fridge versatility in a single container.
