What is an entremets ring used for?

How do you cleanly unmould an entremets?
To ease demoulding, briefly warm the outer wall with a kitchen torch or a hot cloth before lifting the ring. A strip of acetate film placed inside before assembly makes the operation even cleaner by preventing the mousse from sticking to the stainless steel.
Are these rings dishwasher-safe?
